Started in 2008 the Hawthorne Community Garden is intended to be a place where students develop a love of gardening, enrich the lives of students, cultivate our outdoor space, and increase awareness of stewardship, ecology, botany, and conservation. The vision for the area is to create a place where teachers can regularly bring their classes to learn outdoors.

New this year, Mr. Elway is leading an after school Garden Club for 3-5th graders. Find out more on the Enrichment page.

There are lots of ways you can help make Hawthorne's garden grow!

  • Garden after morning drop-off or after the school day. Help us get the garden ready for Spring/Summer by volunteering. Please contact the Garden Coordinator if you are interested in helping in garden before or after school or come by the garden.

  • Be a garden chaperone at recess or on School testing days. Have fun digging in the dirt, pulling weeds, finding critters and learning about plants with groups of up to 10 children.

  • Join us for a Garden Work Party

  • Sign up to help with summertime watering.

***When locking up the garden at the end of your visit Please remember to scramble the numbers on the lock so that it will lock again and so the students can't re-open the lock and be in the garden without chaperone.  Thank you!!****
